In order to fund the growth in apprenticeships, all employers with an annual pay bill over £3 million will pay a 0.5% levy from April 2017. These funds will then be paid back to employers in the form of vouchers that can be used on government-approved apprenticeship schemes. Using these vouchers is a reinvestment that simply makes sense. GOVERNMENT REVEALS FURTHER DETAILS ON APPRENTICESHIP FUNDING WORTH £2.5BN

CMI has welcomed an announcement from the government that has outlined further details of the incoming Apprenticeship Levy, which sets government funding for the initiative at £2.5bn.

The announcement includes an increase to the amount of time employers have to use their funding and incentives for taking on young apprentices and those from underprivileged backgrounds. It confirms that the cost of training young people will be fully covered for smaller employers, that additional funding will be provided for training young people as apprentices, and that a longer time-frame for employers to use their funding credits will now be in place.

The announcement is welcome news at a time of renewed focus on upskilling the UK, as Brexit continues to fuel concerns about future access…
