A CLEAR ROUTE
TO LEADERSHIP.

See how being one of Pendragon PLC’s first Chartered Manager Degree Apprentices is opening up future career opportunities for Sam Butler.

When I heard about degree apprenticeships, I was really excited. I found the learning format at University really wasn’t for me and I wanted something more hands-on.

SAM BUTLER, 26
Service Advisor, Pendragon PLC

A CLEAR ROUTE TO LEADERSHIP

Sam joined Pendragon, one of the UK’s leading operators of franchised motor dealerships, in April 2016. He is one of the first to join as a Chartered Manager Degree Apprentice.

Sam is starting as a Service Advisor at dealership Evans Halshaw. He is studying through Nottingham Trent University to gain a Degree Apprenticeship and set himself on the path to Chartered status. Sam previously studied Business Management but found the lack of application uninspiring and began looking elsewhere.

AN ALTERNATIVE
TO UNIVERSITY

The new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship has been developed by a group of 40 employers and universities, headed by Serco and supported by CMI.

“When I heard about degree apprenticeships, I was really excited. I found the learning format at University wasn’t for me and I wanted something more hands-on. The Degree Apprenticeship is a fantastic chance to attain not only a degree in Leadership and Management, but also Chartered Manager accreditation, while gaining some great work experience within the company.”

ACHIEVE FUTURE
CAREER GOALS

Sam is anticipating the future opportunities his Degree Apprenticeship will bring: “Having a professional qualification in management will open up a huge number of opportunities for me.”

“Looking forward, I’m aiming to reach a senior management position – a goal made all the more achievable through the Degree Apprenticeship. Pendragon is one of the first organisations in the UK to adopt the apprenticeship, which is part-funded by the government.”

BENEFITS FOR EMPLOYERS & APPRENTICES

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the programme and think there are clear benefits for both sides. For me it provides a clear route to becoming a business leader.”

“In turn, Pendragon will gain a loyal employee with both the relevant qualifications and an in-depth knowledge of the business from the outset – something you can’t get by employing someone straight out of university. After I’ve successfully completed the course, I hope to move into a leadership role within Pendragon to further my personal and professional development.”
