COMBINING WORK & STUDY

Boots UK was one of the first businesses to work with CMI to offer a BA (Hons) degree programme for Future Leader Apprentices based at its Support Office in Nottingham.

Last year, when Jessica Farnell graduated from the Boots Future Leaders Apprenticeship programme, she heard about the new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship opportunity within Boots UK and thought this could be a great direction for her to take.

DIRECTLY RELEVANT SKILLS

Programme Manager Jessica now has the opportunity to learn skills at degree level which are directly relevant to her job, while continuing her full-time employment.

Thanks to the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship, Jessica has gained experience throughout the business from in-store positions, to field roles and responsibilities within the Support Office. With huge scope for higher progression, Jessica is excited about her future at the company.

DEBT-FREE DEGREE & EXPERIENCE

“I had a brilliant introduction into full-time working, benefitting from the academic studies alongside real-life experience,” says Jessica.

She has no doubts that this was the perfect opportunity for her career: “The fact that we are now able to top up our qualification to a degree shows that an apprenticeship was absolutely the right route as I will get a degree, on the job experience and no debt at the end of it.”

FURTHERING LEARNING

Andrew Chandler, Director of HR for Stores at Boots UK, describes how Boots have got onboard with apprenticeships:

“Since 2011 we’ve recruited around 100 young people into the business as part of our Future Leaders Higher Apprenticeship programme. Through the CMDA programme we are excited to be able to offer our graduating apprentices the opportunity to further their learning from the Level 4 Diploma qualification through to a degree, and also receive Chartered Manager accreditation.”
